Common Questions and Answers
Q: Where are you located?
A: We are based in Sacramento, CA. Our dogs are cared for in a private foster home, so all appointments for dog visits must be booked in advance.
Q: What kind of dogs do you rescue?
A: We take any dogs under 15lbs, but we specialize in senior, injured, abused, neglected and hard-to-place dogs.
Q: Are the dogs kept in kennels?
A: No, our dogs all live in a home environment. We have no cages and our residents have indoor and outdoor spaces to relax.
Q: How many dogs do you have at a time?
A: Unless there is an emergency rescue, we don't take in more than 5 dogs at any one time. Due to the dogs we typically rescue being senior or injured, they need space and time to heal. Only having a maximum of 5 dogs means we can give enough individual, specialized care to these dogs.
Q: Do you ship dogs?
A: No, unfortunately we cannot ship or transport dogs.
Q: How long does the adoption process take?
A: The process can vary depending on a variety of factors, so can be completed in as soon as a few days to a couple of weeks. We always require a visit to meet the dog you're interested in. In some circumstances we may also request a home visit.
Q: What are your adoption fees?
A: Fees range due to the condition of the dog, the age, medical care given and many other factors. However, adoption fees are generally between $400 and $800. Please check the individual dog listing for their fee.
Q: Do you take owner surrenders?
A: We do take surrenders, but these are looked at on an individual basis. If you have a dog that needs to be surrendered, please email littlepawsdoggierescue@gmail.com for more information on how to proceed.
Q: How can I donate or support you?
A: Monetary donations are our biggest need, so any donation is hugely helpful to us. We use MightyCause to take donations in and donation links can be found at the top of every page. We also have a Chewy wishlist here where you can purchase needed items for us to be sent directly to the rescue. If you would like to get more hands on, we also accept volunteers. Go to our ways to help page to find out more.
Q: Are you a registered nonprofit?
A: Yes! We are registered as a 501(c)(3) as Little Paws Doggie Rescue and were founded in 2020. Our Tax ID number is 85-2337820.
